this word is commonly referred to a person who is attempting to express his or her feelings in a very loud and boisterous manner. this person on a daily basis will act as if they are consistently on a mission even though they may be doing something that is an everyday task, such as eating an apple. this person may crunch on that apple very loudly while making very satisfactory faces. this person tries to make a sturdy, firm point out of something that to other normal people would seem ridiculous and unimportant. while a 'hmph' is trying to make their unimportant point, the individulas in the surrounding area will undoubtably laugh at this person and talk amongst themselves at how ridiculous they look on a daily basis. this person walks with bounce in their step, and when you see a hmph in the hallway, yell HMPH!!
